Basics On Fulfilling Your Bucket List

By Katelyn Buckner

The compilation of things a person hopes to achieve before dying is commonly known as a bucket list. The entire concept is based off of the saying to kick the bucket, or die. These lists can be compiled at any age, by anyone. Usually they include things a person has always dreamed of doing but, for one reason or another, has not. Fulfilling your bucket list is exciting because it means that you are accomplishing goals that you have set.

Many people put these lists together to challenge themselves to live life to the fullest. As no one is certain when they will pass away, there are many things they want to accomplish before they die. Everyone has something different on his or hers. There are no set requirements. In fact, many people do not bother to write it all down and just keep a mental record of the things they still want to do.

The information on these does not have to be made public, although many choose to share these with family and friends. The goals may range from landing a dream job to travelling to a country outside of your own. In some situations, the activities include others or may directly impact them, for example: relocating to a different country in order to do charity work.

Most of what is included on these are a reflection of the individual who compiled the list. They align with the personality and interests of the person. Still, some choose to add things that are not related to their interests or lifestyle. Things that are not in their zone of comfort. This is what makes reaching these goals exciting and challenging.

These may be small or large and they do not have to be set in stone. The goals of a young person will likely be different from an older individual. As a person ages, they my have less interest in one goal and change it out for a new goal. The flexibility of the lists adds to their appeal. They can be anything the owner wants them to be.

These are mostly used to inspire people. They can encourage an individual to achieve his or her dreams and set goals that help with personal growth. Many times the accomplishments of these items lead to new life experiences that shape a person.

Sometimes the items are relative to the person. Other times they are more common to the general public. Goals that are commonly set on these lists include reaching a certain weight, taking on a new hobby or profession, travelling worldwide, participating in an extreme sporting event, pursuing passions, mentoring another person, writing and book, and more.

In order to put together your list, there are some questions you can ask yourself to get ideas. Consider: What would you do today if you knew you were to die tomorrow? What would you do if you have unlimited resources, including time and money? What are you biggest dreams and goals? What experiences do you want to feel? Once you know the answers to these questions, you can begin fulfilling your bucket list, one thing at a time.
